Efficiency of cryoprotectors for cryopreservation of two orchid species from Americas

Abstract The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency cryoprotective solution (PVS2) combined with phloroglucinol for cryopreservation seeds two orchid species, Encyclia cordigera and Epidendrum ciliare. Seeds had 91.03% initial viability 91.99% germination. treatment PVS2 at 0 °C 1% 60 min returned 93.79% 91.01% germination after recovery from LN, consequently resulting in faster development protocorms. For ciliare, seed 85.65% 85.90%. Seed exposure 180 showed 39.23% 37.88%. Despite lower germination, 78.90% protocorms reached stage P3 development, when evaluated 45 days sowing, not significantly different control 1, normal development.
